Enter the Old Vine Photography Competition

Are you an amateur, a budding professional, or a seriously pro photographer who loves wine? Then you should consider entering the Old Vine Photography Competition.

Old vineyards possess any number of virtues, which I am happy to extoll at every opportunity, but beyond their cultural, historical, agronomical, and oenological value, they are also just damn beautiful. Old vines are sculptural works of living art, and make beautiful subjects for photography.

This competition is run by the Old Vine Conference organization, which exists to evangelize and support old-vine wines around the world. They are accepting submissions through May 5, 2026.

Photographs can be entered into one of four categories: Landscape & Plants, People, Cultural Legacy, and Resilience & Adaptation.

The grand prize winner will get a free pass to one of the Old Vine Conference’s field trips around the globe and £500 towards travel costs to get there. Category winners will receive a lifetime membership to the Old Vine Conference organization and a case of old vine wine, among other things.

You can find all the details about the competition on the OVC website. Each entry costs £20, and up to four images can be entered per person.

It might go without saying, but regardless, the images in question must feature old vines—vineyards that are more than 35 years old. Beyond that, anything goes.

If you are taking pictures of old vines, might I suggest you also consider making an image available to the Old Vine Registry at the same time, especially if the vineyard is not yet registered in our database, or doesn’t yet have an image associated with it. Contact me for more info or instructions if you need them.

Happy snapping!
